With 22 days left until Christmas, we have a list of the 22 best Christmas movies to countdown the days in holiday style! So stock up on hot chocolate and popcorn and bring out the fuzzy socks and blanket, because your Christmas movie countdown starts tonight.
22. While You Were Sleeping
Sandra Bullock falls in love with a guy in a coma and ends up leading the family to believe they’re engaged. What could possibly go wrong?
21. Deck the Halls
Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition over the holidays? Nothing puts us in the spirit like a few Christmas lights… or a lot.
20. Jack Frost
Ah yes, this one pulls on the heart strings every year. So don’t forget the tissues!
19. White Christmas
Being from Vermont, this one has always been pretty near and dear to my heart. And don’t even get me started on the dancing!
18. The Grinch
All three versions are golden, but the Jim Carrey one will always be my favorite.
17. Christmas with the Kranks
Did someone say “skipping Christmas”…? Well not if these neighbors have anything to say about it.
16. Serendipity
Cuddle up close to your person for this one. This movie is a perfect blend of Christmas and star-crossed romance.
15. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
It’s an absolute classic! Need I say more?
14. The Holiday
Oof, this one is really up there for me. England, LA, romance, and an all-star cast combine for the perfect blend of humor, romance, and festivity!
13. A Christmas Carol
This one is definitely a bit spooky, but in the end, it brings a real appreciation for life and the impact we can have on others if we so choose.
12. Jingle All the Way
This one is hilarious! What better way to deal with the stress of not being able to find the exact right present for someone than to make light of it in this family comedy.
11. A Christmas Story
Another classic with plenty of laughable moments. You can’t let the season pass without watching this one.
10. The Santa Clause
Imagine Santa falls off your roof on the night of Christmas Eve… What happens next? Tim Allen was certainly surprised when he found out…
9. Santa Clause 2
The first one was so good that they made another! While the first one holds a more special place in my heart, I can’t say that the second one disappointed.
8. Home Alone 1
It’s a non-negotiable.
7. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal. 😉
6. Love Actually
This one seamlessly weaves the lives of spontaneous prime ministers, emotionally intense 10-year-olds, washed up rock stars, struggling widowers, carriers of family baggage, unaware newly weds, and more. It’s a beautiful film about love actually being all around us, and is a must watch for the days leading up to Christmas.
5. It’s a Wonderful Life
Allll the feels. Name a more effective “feel good” movie. I’ll wait.
4. Last Christmas
This one only came out last year, so if you haven’t seen it yet, let me warn you. Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster and a very interesting interpretation of a classic Christmas song.
3. Miracle on 34th Street
It’s always been one of my favorites. Who doesn’t love Mr. Kringle?
2. Elf
“First, we’ll make snow angels for two hours. And then we’ll go ice skating. And then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie Dough as fast as we can. And then, to finish, we’ll snuggle.”
1. The Polar Express
MY family used to have a tradition of watching this in the IMAX theatre before Christmas, and the magic of it has stayed with me ever since. What better way to prepare for Santa’s coming than a trip to the North Pole on a magic train?
